The bottleneck Effect
The bottleneck effect is a sharp lowering of a population's gene pool because of an environmental, or human-caused, change. After the severe drop in population, certain alleles from the previous generation will either be absent, over-represented or under-represented, causing a drastic change in the allele frequencies of the population.
