Ecological Species concept
The ecological species concept focuses on the ecological niche for a species, or how the living and nonliving members of the community interact with each other and with their environment.
For example, two species of salamanders could like very much alike but could be different in the foods they eat and the weather environments they tolerate more. The ecological species concept can be used for both asexual and sexual organisms. Finally, this species concept emphasizes how natural selection further differentiates similar species due to different environmental pressures. |
