Biological species concept focuses on the differences between species in terms of their ability to reproduce. It defines a species as groups of organisms that can interbreed and produce fertile offspring but are unable to produce fertile offspring with other groups.
- A New York businesswoman and a Mongolian farmer could produce fertile offspring because they are both humans (they are of the same species).
- Meanwhile, a giraffe and a lion cannot interbreed and cannot produce fertile offspring. Thus, they are biologically distinct and are different species.
